WALPOLE MENZIES
“A different legal firm making a difference.”Disruption: The first aeroplane
The work we do
We advise and act for clients whose commercial rights have been affected by the conduct of others. The commercial rights affected might be in Australia or elsewhere. The rights can vary from:
intellectual property
disciplinary proceedings
rights pursuant to the Corporations Act
insurance
tax schemes
property
employment relations
Defamation
Insolvency
We regard it as our job to fit our business to a client’s issue. If we cannot look after a client or think that others can do a better job, then we try to find the right person for them. Much of our work is on referral from other professionals. We are happy to refer people on to others. No remuneration or fee has or will ever be paid for referrals.
What is the Walpole Menzies “difference”?
Started in late 2017, the firm’s sources of work are largely referral based. We receive work from referrers and do it when it fits with our resources and skill base. We refer out work when we believe others can do it better than we can.
Our present skill base is commercial disputes. In addition to legal skills and experience, we have academic accounting qualifications and business qualifications at both graduate and postgraduate level. We can readily understand the complexity of commercial circumstances.
We find the fees charged by many professional firms as disappointing as many clients do. Our approach is twofold. First, cut out all the overheads unnecessary for the provision of legal advice. Second, have all fees based upon the evidence on the files and the scales of costs set by the Supreme or County Courts. This is done by lawyers skilled in legal costs, external to the firm.

Why a verified fees model?
The verification of fees at the scale of fees prescribed by the courts is the best way of ensuring that we as lawyers get to the nub of the client’s problem as quickly and efficiently as possible.
